The NBA, as it is popularly called, was established on 26 June 1939 by one of the pioneer communist leaders of India Muzaffar Ahmad, and his associates Rebati Burman, Suren Kar and others. It has served book-lovers for more than 80 years. Starting with a paltry investment of rupees two hundred, the NBA has played a glorious role in reaching out to all categories of readers with Marxist and other writings, particularly in Bengali language. In doing so, the NBA had to confront many hostile turns of events, yet it continues with its steadfast task. Its publications now include nearly 250 titles in Bengali, English, Hindi and Urdu. At NBA, you will find not only classical Marxist texts and primers on Marxism for beginners, but also other books on philosophy, history, social sciences, biographies, memoirs, popular science, literature (including children’s literature), culture, fiction, Tagoreana etc. The NBA also sells good books from other publishers. ন্যাশনাল বুক এজেন্সি প্রাইভেট লিমিটেড, যা এন বি এ নামেই বেশি পরিচিত। এই প্রতিষ্ঠনের জন্ম১৯৩৯ সালের ২৬ শে জুন। এদেশে কমিউনিস্ট আন্দোলনের অন্যতম অগ্রদূত মুজফফর আহমদ ও তাঁর সহযোগী রেবতী বর্মন, সুরেন কর প্রমূখ এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা। মাত্র ২০০ টাকার পুঁজি বিনিয়োগ করে এনবিএ যে যাত্রা শুরু করেছিল, পরবর্তীকালে বিশেষত বাংলা ভাষায় মার্কসবাদী বইপত্র প্রকাশে ও প্রচারে সেটি গৌরবজনক ভূমিকা পালন করেছে। এই দায়িত্ব পালন করতে গিয়ে ইতিহাসের বিভিন্ন পর্বে এন বি এ কে অনেক প্রতিকূলতার মুখোমুখি হতে হয়েছে। তবু এন বিএ লক্ষ্যভ্রষ্ট হয়নি। বাংলা ইংরেজি হিন্দি উর্দু মিলিয়ে প্রায় ২৫০ টি বই বর্তমানে ক্রেতাদের জন্য রয়েছে। শুধু ধ্রুপদী মার্কসবাদী বইপত্র নয়, দর্শন ইতিহাস সমাজবিজ্ঞান ,জীবনী ,স্মৃতিচারণ, বিজ্ঞান গল্প কবিতা উপন্যাস অনুবাদ সাহিত্য, শিশুসাহিত্য প্রকৃতি বহু বিষয়ে সমৃদ্ধ এন বি এর পুস্তক তালিকা। অন্যান্য প্রকাশনা সংস্থার ভালো বই ও এনবিএ বিক্রি করে থাকে।
